Who are we?
What is GLI?
Girls Learn International (GLI) Chapters are founded as service learning and after-school clubs in both public and private middle and high schools. Student leaders coordinate and lead weekly or bi-weekly meetings. Faculty advisors and GLI program staff provide guidance and support to Chapters. During Chapter meetings, students use an extensive curriculum developed by GLI to learn about issues dealing with human rights and girls’ education. The GLI curriculum is specifically designed to guide participants in developing critical thinking, problem solving, and advocacy skills essential to effective leadership. Chapter members examine the relationship between girls’ access to education and poverty, early marriage, trafficking, violence and discriminatory practices. Group activities and exercises are included in the curriculum to help Chapter members think about human rights in creative and interactive ways. Through school-wide assemblies, GLI students apply the knowledge they’ve gained to raise awareness in their schools and communities about the challenges facing girls around the globe. Student-to-student, and student-to-parent, GLI is building a movement of informed advocates for universal girls’ education and a new generation of leaders and activists for social change.

What do we do?
GLI is a super fun and engaging way to learn more about human rights and girls' education. Through fun and compelling discussions, games, and videos, all members will gain a new understanding of what it means to be a girl in the modern world, as well as learning about lessons important issues like poverty & hunger, education & empowerment, girl's health, violence against girls, media & advertising, and much more. We will also do fundraisers to raise money girls education. We will celebrate days like Day of the Girl that are focused on women's rights. GLI is super cool because it is primarily student led, which means that you get to do what YOU want to do, and discuss topics that you are passionate about! During our meetings, we will have planned activities and discussions (and yummy food!), and we guarantee that you will learn something every time we meet! GLI also sponsors an awesome trip to the United Nations!
(We also promise to bring yummy treats to EVERY meeting as an incentive for your hard work!!)

our Mission statement
Our mission is to teach Castilleja about the importance of girls' education through fun and engaging meetings and events. After educating our peers, we hope to fund more opportunities for girls deprived of education worldwide.
gli's official mission statement
Girls Learn International (GLI) educates and energizes U.S. students in the global movement for girls’ access to education. GLI pairs Chapters in U.S. middle schools and high schools with Partner Schools in countries where girls still lag behind boys in access to education and where girls are far less likely than boys to stay in school past the primary grades. The GLI Program supports the empowerment of U.S. students as they discover that through their own creative initiatives, dedication, and passionate leadership, they can create real solutions that address the obstacles facing girls and women here and around the world. Student-to-student, and student-to-parent, GLI is building a movement of informed advocates for universal girls’ education and a new generation of leaders and activists for social change.
